Casey (trachtenberg) is a physics whiz, but also loves to figure skate. She want to go to college on a physcics scholarship. When her science teacher ask her to do a personal phyisics project,Casey thinks of figure skating. She thinks she can figure out the exact aero dynamic formula for the skaters jumps and such. So she filming the three best skater,Jen (panettiere) and other skaters Tiffany and Niki, she realizes that she too loves to skate. She starts secretly taking classes without her mom knowing, and starts competing with Jen,Tiffany, and Niki, who soon become friends. When Casey walks out on her interview at Harvard, she realizes that physics was never her dream,it was her moms. She tries to get her mom to come to sectionals, but her mom (cusack)doesn't understand. Finally, during the middle of Casey's performance, her mom does show up. Casey takes the silver, and of course everything turns out fine.
Even though the plotline was thin, there's outstanding acting by the young Michelle and Hayden. Michelle plays Casey perfectly, and Hayden's is very good in dramatic scences. The skating was also amazing. They (or their stunt doubles) did an amazing job,and really gave you a new outlook on how hard figure skating really is.
