--LOTS OF SPOILERS--
--LOTS OF DETAILS--
imagine this:
you've been married to a successful lawyer for 18 years. you love him deeply.
but on your anniversary, he kicks you out.
leaves you with nothing. except a U-Haul full of your stuff.
you've been replaced by a younger woman, who, come to find out, he's been seeing for quite a while because they have kids.
well, that's the situation Helen is in.
and boy is she mad!
omg.
Diary of a Mad Black Woman is sooo good!
It has everything:
drama. romance. comedy.
you'll laugh. maybe cry.
cast and characters
i was drawn to the movie because of Madea. I saw part of a Madea play on video my freshman year and it was hilarious! Madea didn't let me down in this movie. She's full of energy and isn't afraid of anyone!
Tyler Perry does an amaaaaazing job at portraying Madea.
Tyler Perry also plays two other characters: Joe and Brian. Joe is insane. He's Madea's brother and equally insane. To say the least, he's a perv and hooked on that "stuff" [you should know what im referring to] but he brings alot of comedy to the movie.
Brian's the down-to-earth character.
His wife's a drug addict who's trying to change.
They have two kids. One is played by Tiffany Evans [don't know if you remember her. She was on Star Search several years ago and I believe she recorded a song for Disney a while back, I want to say for Lion King 1 1/2, but I'm not sure]. But Tiffany joins the church choir, against the will of her dad. The church thing will be addressed again later.
Kimberly Elise plays Helen.
She is phenomenal! You get most of the movie from her facial expressions, especially her eyes! amazing. You can't help but empathize with Helen because she's been put down by an overbearing and aggressive husband.
Shemar Moore plays Orlando.
I'm kind of biased already because I watch Criminal Minds, but Shemar is an excellent actor. Orlando is the type of man any woman wants. Trustworthy, caring, romantic! He's the knight-in-shining-armor that every damsel-in-distress dreams of.
Steve Harris plays Charles.
He's the character everyone loves to hate. Charles is Helen's husband. He leaves her for a younger woman. He proves to be a VERY shady character, and I guess that's why I didn't like him so much. He treated Helen terribly, like an object. And he, honestly, never earned my respect throughout the movie...
Insight on the romance part.
Good plot. The romance between Helen and Orlando drew me in. It was off to a very very VERY rocky start, but Orlando woos Helen in. It's such a beautiful romance. We all need a guy like Orlando. [lol]. omg. When he proposes to her, some drama erupts when Charles is shot and Helen leaves Orlando to hang for several weeks. I hated that! It was the rain-on-my-parade for the movie. Helen left Orlando for Charles, the man who treated her like crap. And then Helen and Orlando don't get back together until the last 5 minutes! Lemme tell you, I was about to get mad, but it was a band-aid on my soul when she finally comes to her senses and goes back to Orlando!
Okay. Now for my favorite part: Madea.
Tyler Perry is a genius. Pure genius.
Madea is HILARIOUS!
Madea and Joe both!
Every scene they're in put me in stitches.
oh my goodness. Madea and that pistol! whoooooooooo.....
It's just pure comedy!
The main theme is about forgiveness, which it was incredibly portrayed.
Now for the tearjerker scenes.
To me, it was all about Debrah.
Debrah is Brian's drug addicted wife. Throughout the entire movie, you see her shaking and ragged and worn-down.
She checks herself into a rehab center, and you see her sitting on the bed shaking.
oh my goodness. but the most powerful scene is when she bursts into the church and sings with tiffany. I almost cried.
Overall: five stars. two thumbs up.
no, make that twenty five golden stars and five billion thumbs up.
**My favorite scene was the closet scene at the beginning.**
**and i absolutely LOOOVE when Madea takes a chainsaw to all the furniture...**
"Half of everything in this house is hers . . . Do you want this half or this half?"
*revs up chainsaw*
wow.
MUST SEE!
