it was awesome, but might
scare people who aren't scary
movie lovers.
one word: amazing.
it's not a typical "scary" movie.
it's more along the lines of a thriller.
the first 30 minutes or so, there's not a lot of suspense or anything.
it's more along the lines of setting up the relationship between kale and ashley.
but once the killer is introduced, it gets alot more interesting.
david morse is an amaaaazing actor! known for playing bad guys. haha.
the last little bit will definitely keep you on the edge of your seat.
it did me! both times! even though i knew what was going to happen, i was still sitting on the edge of my seat and screaming at all the creepiness!
it's kind of graphic.
actually, really graphic at times.
but definitely a must-see if you're into thrillers.
shia labeouf is definitely amazing.
and ronnie is hilarious!!!
definitely a lot of comic relief.
disturbia = 2 thumbs up from nikki.
10/10 stars
Plot/Setting:
The setting was...not the most exciting place. But I guess that was the point. To show that this crap happens just about anywhere! Most regular/boring place EVER! It's really hard to make a movie interesting when you're trapped in such a limited area [spacially challenged?] throughout the movie. But, somehow, it worked! You're not even bothered by the fact that you don't really ever leave the neighbourhood. Though, that could be credited to the cast for keeping it interesting [I'll get to that later].
The Plot was very good. It was something realistic and believable and that's what made it so scary. My brother, my father, and I were talking about it afterwards, and we all agree that Kale was one of the few logical & believable thriller/horror movie characters. You know how most horror/thrillers have the STUPID leads who are like "what, was that a strange noise? THERE'S A KILLER IN MY BASEMENT??? I should go look around." or "Guys, guys, lets split up. That way, he can kill us off one by one in our pointless adventuring through the creepy home of a cereal killer! *big grin*", this one didn't. In this one, the writers made him smart enough to make sure to alert the police [via nifty tracking device] before going after his mother. And that was his first instinct [trying to unhook the monitor while also avoiding being smashed to shxit]. And if anyone were in Kale's position, who would really be able to wait for the cops while their mother is trapped in the house of a psycho? I sure as hell wouldn't. So I think that his actions and choices were both logical a believable.
Only complaint with plot: Dude, Ronnie got his head smashed in with a metal bat. There's no WAY he's just coming out of it with a black eye. Hello cracked skull?
Characters/Actors:
Bwaha.
The good stuff.
I'll start with my main man: Shia LaBeouf/Kale Brecht. I may be biased here, but can you say awesome? He managed to pull of the whole Tom Hanks in Cast Away thing where you're alone but still manage to make the movie entertaining. With the Tower of Twinky in place of Wilson the Volleyball...sort of. I think he was nothing short of amazing, and because of that, the movie was a huge hit. If your lead sucks, your movie will suck. Especially when the whole film is riding on that character.
David Morse/Turner: Dude. Sweeeeet. He pulls off deranged without going over the top and it's awesome. The scene in the car with Ashley is the most uncomfortable thing of my life. I love that he was silently creepy. Didn't say much, but they way he delivered certain lines ["Now we have to bring your mother over here so you can slit her throat"] just sent shivers down my spine. It's all in how calm he was through the whole thing. AND WHEN HE CAME OUT OF THE SHADOW HOLDING KALE'S MOM???? DUDE THE LOOK ON HIS FACE COULD HAVE MADE ME CRAP MYSELF!
THIS JUST IN: He's a method actor. So he completely ignored Shia and the rest of the cast through the whole thing...since, you know, his character wanted to kill them. Method acting fascinates me to no end! O.O
Sarah Roemer/Ashley: Hmm. She was probably the weakest character in the movie. She's nothing spectacular in the talent department, but luckily her role didn't call for much so she was good for this part. I really don't have much to say about her. She was just alright. Definitely didn't stand out.
Aaron Yoo/Ronnie: Ah how we love mucho comic relief. He was hilarious and thats why he was there. Period.
All in All
It rocked big time.
Best Teen thriller i have seen.
I was so happy it actually had a great plot.
Not to mention the most RANK, intense opening ever! I flinch every time!
